John Bowles and Mary Harris
my 3 x gt grandparents
John, son of George and Mary Bowles, was baptized at Chart Sutton in September 1801 and Mary, daughter of George and Elisabeth Harris, at Cranbrook in 1805.
John was a master blacksmith, at Frittenden, and taught his trade to his son James and stepson George.
Mary's first child, born May 1824, was baptized at Frittenden in November 1824, George Roots, baseborn son of Mary HARRIS, servant. The father was George ROOTS of Biddenden, son of Thomas & Lucy ROOTS, but the child grew up using his step-father's surname of BOWLES
Mary and John were married at Frittenden in January 1825. They had another six sons baptized at Frittenden before Mary's early death, from "Fever" in 1839.
John remarried in 1844 at St Nicholas church in Strood, KEN. His second wife was a widow, Elzabeth Wood, a licenced victualler of Strood, daughter of Daniel Malgon, an Inn keeper. There are no know children from this marriage.
When he died in January 1864 John was buried alongside Mary and their young son Charles at Frittenden.
