Robert was baptized 25 May 1817 at Stowey in Somerset, the youngest child of Henry Escott and Mary Fear.
Elizabeth was baptised 14 June 1812 at Bath Abbey, daughter of William and Elizabeth Little.
Elizabeth was a widow when she and Robert were married at Walcot in 1841. Her first marriage was to Henry BAYLIS at South Stoke on 27 Oct 1833. They were both 'of the parish'. On the 1841 marriage certificate names she is Elizabeth BAYLIS, widow and named her father as William BAYLIS which is incorrect, it should be William LITTLE. Bath Register Office have confirmed that the GRO certificate is identical to the register they hold, so a case of clerical error in that the vicar maybe only asked what her father's Christian name was and then wrongly gave him his daughter's married surname.
The birth registrations of their first three children in Walcot RD are indexed with BAYLI as her maiden name. I don't have any of the certificates but I'd guess that those register entries show the mother to be Elizabeth ESCOTT formerly BAYLIS although they should be Elizabeth ESCOTT, late BAYLIS, formerly LITTLE - the registrar probably didn't ask the correct questions!
Robert was a servant in 1841, a publican in 1854 and working away from home in Llanfihangel Y Pennant, Caernarvonshire, Wales in 1861 as butler to George Huddart a County Magistrate and Landed Proprieter. In 1871 he was an unemployed waiter, employed as a waiter in 1871 and an Office Keeper (paralysed) for Inland Revenue in 1881. He died in August 1899 at Odd Down Union workhouse; his death certificate describes him as a domestic waiter.
Elizabeth died Q1 1891.
