George William Sleator and Margaret Cook
my great grandparents

George was baptized on 19th January 1856 at St John's Sligo (Church of Ireland).

They were both of full age when they married at Calry Parish church in October 1884. His address was Middleton Row, Sligo and hers was Rathcarrick townland, also in Sligo parish although the 1911 census shows that she was born in County Armagh, and they were both fifty six years old, so born about 1855 and the family religion was Congregationalist.

George's parents were James Sleator and Elizabeth Bell.
Margaret, from whom I get my mitochondrial DNA was the daughter of Robert Cooke and Margaret Higginson.

George William was a labourer in 1884, a Bank Porter in 1890, a general labearer (sic) in 1913 and an Army Pensioner in 1923, but I have been unable to find any record of his army service or pension award in the Kilmainan Hospital records at TNA Kew.

I know that the family moved from Sligo to Belfast some time between 1892 and 1896 when the youngest child was born. In 1901 they lived at 210 Matilda Street, Belfast an area which has been re-developed and in 1911 they were at 9 Mayfield Street.
