The document comes from a lawsuit in an ecclesiastical court - the court of the archdeacon of
Canterbury. John Vincett is the court-appointed administrator of the goods of Elizabeth Rogers, deceased, of the
parish of Cranbrook, Kent. He is bringing a testamentary case against Rebecca Couchman, a widow of
Cranbrook. In the document (called by the technical term of articles) Rebecca is being questioned about certain
matters pertaining to Elizabeth Rogers's goods.

Will - speaks of leaving his 'drysalt' to his son Richard. From description of his belongs it seems likely he was a
farmer, like his father (husbandman), and /or a clothier. He speaks of heis 'lynnen, yearn, new cloth, hempe and
flax" and the reference to 'Copper Taynter Hardles' just after his residence ... is significant in that they are tools of
the clothier's trade. Cranbrook reknown for making broadcloth.
